‘Procrastination’ is simply the act of delaying things or, in other words, postponing activities, not because of lack of time, but generally because of plain laziness.

Any individual who has procrastinated and has eventually suffered but obvious consequences, will not only value time, but also focus on getting things done on time, every time.

One who procrastinates will not understand the value of time and other subsequent losses that might take place, till it becomes too late.

If we observe the global environment, and try to understand the underlying factors, it is evident that procrastination (one of the many factors) might be playing a major role to obstruct the collective actions of many.

Procrastination is a pressing issue, and has to be made aware of, across nations. Regardless of their economic status, nations must collectively fight to uproot procrastination, which is a major impediment towards productivity. What’s even more important is that productivity is a long-term game, which should continually be focused upon, on a year-on-year basis.

3 DEFINING FACTORS THAT CAN UPROOT PROCRASTINATION:

1. Prioritizing: Prioritizing can be a perfect antidote for Procrastination. But again, to prioritize means to be disciplined and proactive at all times. The “Eisenhower Matrix” is one of the best examples for prioritizing.

You can prioritize your daily set of actions, by yourself, as it only requires a little bit of time and effort to prioritize your daily and weekly activities. Once you properly prioritize all your professional activities (in line with your job, academic course etc.,) with the necessary timelines, then you’ll witness by yourself that there is no room left for procrastination.

As a result, you’ll be happy that you’ve completed all the assigned tasks within the stipulated timelines. Be it a software development project, preparing a presentation or writing a thesis, once you complete your designated tasks, a sense of self-fulfillment takes place, which in itself is rewarding. This, in due course of time, will make you a proactive and disciplined person.

2. Working rigorously upon mood swings: Mood swings generally mean an alteration in your emotional state. Mood swing is another pressing issue that encourages procrastination, because when you don’t have the right frame of mind, you’re not able to perform and will, eventually, push things to a later date.

It is completely natural to go through mood swings, but what we’ve to seriously consider is managing moods tactfully. If we’re in a position to control our moods, then there is a sure chance that we can beat procrastination and march towards a progressive career.

With efforts, patience and a positive mindset, you will surely be able to track and manage your moods ably, over a period of time.

3. ‘Do-it-now’ mentality: Replace your ‘postponement’ mentality with the ‘Do-it-now’ mentality. This simply means you getting right into the project and start working on it, which in actuality, was being resisted by you for the past few days, weeks or may be even months.

It requires consistent practice to wrap your brain around the ‘Do-it-now’ mentality. Over a period of time, you’ll see to that whatever project / assignment you’re assigned to do, you’ll just get into the habit of jumping in without thinking twice and start doing the work, without wasting any time.

Eventually you’ll see for yourself that you’re transformed from a procrastinator to a go-getter.
